When I was in Afghanistan this past May, I was trying to find a gold Amani coin to bring back. After a few days, the local peddler came up with a 4 gram Iranian coin that looked somewhat similar. It was worn almost flat and had teeth marks attesting to its circulation. He wanted $250 and wouldn't budge on price so I let it pass. ($80 in gold spot) Heritage auctions has them from time to time

I see these here in the souqs in Qatar on occasion, although they typically want 20 - 50% over spot value for them. Also have to be sure you weigh & measure them to weed out fakes.
Bought a few a couple of years ago at spot in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey. Nice addition to the collection! |

I took a 1 gram gold suiss credit and all the electronic scales they were using, that I tested, were right on. Sometimes it was trickey coming up with an excuse to weigh my sample but I usually did it when I wasn't acting interested in anything.

Haha! I carry a couple of Fisch detectors with me, one is a British Sovereign. I'll feign interest in one of the sovereigns & have them weigh it. Then I whip out the Fisch & fisch it to confirm their scales. THEN, having done that, I'll move on to the Ottoman coin...:bear_tongue:

skytrooper check E-Bay
from time to time they show up, I never bid as they are an "odd-ball" coin.
